Wandering Women/ Kobiety Wędrowne
The Wandering Women are women aware of the “needs and problems of female migrants and refugees in Poland on basis of their own seven-year experience”, and have consequently been addressing them with their activities. Wandering Women organise meetings with other “wanderers” – women diverse in their ethnic and cultural origin, residing in refugee centres across Poland. To quote the group’s founders, “We have decided to join forces and support each other while helping other female migrants and refugees far away from their homeland, homes, and family to overcome the sense of solitude by organising mutual support and self-help activities, and establishing contacts between migrant communities and Polish women”.
Khedi – pedagogue, social animator, visionary – is the heart of the group. The community also has a “golden manual talent”: Aminat is a designer and seamstress, a person of numerous visual arts, culinary, and artistic talents.
Fund money will allow the Wandering Women to accomplish three things. Firstly, they will cover the costs of a strategic meeting of the Foundation’s board and council, indispensable to the planning of further organisational development. Secondly, they will purchase items required to meet and work with women: kitchen utensils, and tailoring and gardening materials. Thirdly, they will organise more personal meetings with female refugees and migrants residing in Poland. All activities are brought together with the leitmotif of focusing on the self-organisation of and self-help in the female refugee community, resources sharing, and mutual support.
