Olesia, Maria, and Alena came to Poland from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. All three have been socially involved in their countries of origin for years, and today they share a will to actively participate in life in Poland. They got to know each other as part of the herstorical Trójmiasto project “Metropolitanka” – they took a course for guides in the Gdańsk Shipyard and now, as project ambassadors, they talk in Russian about the work of women in the former Gdańsk Shipyard, their participation the Solidarity movement.
More support for young migrant women!
There are approx. 4,000 immigrants under the age of 20 in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, and many of them are women. Masha, Alena and Olesia see that there is a lack of informal education in Trójmiasto for girls with experience of migration. They know the challenges young women face at work very well – now they wish to share their experience with others. Therefore, using the funds from the mini-grant, they want to organize a three-month series of development meetings for Russian-speaking teenagers on the topic of gender equality, leadership, and conscious choice of a profession.
The group will invite a career advisor and migrant experts, e.g. a businesswoman, graphic designer, public activist, activist of the women’s movement, etc. In this way, they want to strengthen the girls so that they can develop among their peers in a safe space and support them in making choices about their future.
“The most important thing for us is to show girls that choosing a profession is a path and that it cannot be done once and for all. We want them to learn to deal with uncertainty situations, where there is no clearly correct answer.”
