Bydgoszcz Sisterhood is an informal group of four women associated with Manifa Bydgoska and LGBT + organizations in the region. “Our organization is a rather spontaneous creation – persons who feel that they have to do something, change something, met during various initiatives. We are part of the social left, and we are interested in social feminism and the actual equality of all people”.
When the last public and free lactation clinic in Bydgoszcz closed in the beginning of 2020, the group alerted politicians that this meant a drastic limitation in access to lactation counseling. “In Poland, lactation clinics are not reimbursed, only well-to-do women can visit a specialized consultant”. The failure to feed a baby naturally for mothers who want it significantly affects the well-being of these women”, say member of the group.
“We want the slogan “when the state does not protect me, I will defend my sisters” to resonate on all fronts of the fight for women’s rights”. Using the funds from the mini-grant, Bydgoszcz Sisterhood will organize workshops on lactation and breastfeeding for young and expectant mothers, conducted by certified lactation consultants and midwives. “Every mother who wants to breastfeed should be helped in this regard. We want the slogan “when the state does not protect me, I will defend my sisters” to resonate on all fronts of the fight for women’s rights, also in postpartum care”, emphasize the women of Bydgoszcz.
