Power Grant (institutional grant for carrying out the group’s mission)
About the group
Our goal is for every trans* person in Poland to make informed decisions about the medical and legal aspects of transition, and for their experience in medical offices, government offices and courts to not be one of humiliation, violence, and exclusion.
tranzycja.pl’s permanent team consists of 8 people, 6 of whom are transgender. The group was created in response to the lack of publicly available, reliable and evidence-based knowledge about being trans and transition on the Internet. Since then, tranzycja.pl has been creating the largest knowledge base for trans people in Poland. In addition, its creators write educational publications addressed to journalists, primary care physicians and registry offices’ officials. The basic goal of the group is to provide every trans person – regardless of their financial situation or place of residence – with access to reliable information about transition, as well as to strengthen their sense of self-determination and feminist awareness.
We are trying to be the intellectual base of the entire movement, not to focus on duplicating basic information for the cisgender audience. Without our activities, this task rests in the hands of cisgender doctors and lawyers, who assume systemic power over our basic autonomy – and often use it against us.

About the action
On a daily basis, the group works on new content, creating new articles, rewriting and supplementing old ones, writing new publications, and consulting with experts. They also administer a map of friendly specialists, consult gender affirmation laws, conduct trainings, attend conferences and workshops. Additionally, they act on an ad hoc basis, answering the community’s questions, providing legal assistance and responding to emergencies related to discrimination, e.g., in hospital wards.
Grant amount: PLN 80,000
