MiniGrant:
Preparation of perfomance using the Playback Theatre method, together with migrant women
“In a situation of immigration, every person, especially women, experiences a double, triple – or even X-fold, due to extra complexity – dose of daily stress. That’s why we named our group FemX”
About the group
The FemX initiative group consists of three women who came to Poland from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. After moving to Poland, they had to face numerous challenges related to adaptation and the accompanying fears. They were struggling with social isolation, misunderstanding, lack of knowledge of the Polish language or the need to perform low-paid works, often without suitable documentation.
Members of the group know that such situations create a risk of discrimination based on nationality (or simply discrimination). Therefore, they decided to support other women who have recently come to Poland.
“The motto of the theatre is: every woman’s story deserves to be heard”
About the action
FemX invite immigrant women to jointly prepare the performance using the Playback Theatre method. It is a modern direction of social theatre, whose main task is to connect real stories of people. It is on such personal stories that performances are based, and actresses improvise through dramatic play, movement, and singing.
Working on the performance is a kind of a psychological support and mutual help group. Participating in Playback helps women relax, unwind, but also find a solution to their problem.
