Rightful
Rightful are three activist and researcher who have been cooperating for several years in the field of the rights of persons with disabilities: Magdalena, Agnieszka and Katarzyna. “We are from minority groups ourselves. We act both as allies and by working with our own identity for the benefit of groups particularly vulnerable to exclusion, especially women, persons with disabilities”. As members of the Article 6 collective they organized, i.a., the first Congress of Women with Disabilities in Poland and co-created the report “A women comes to the doctor” on the availability of gynecological care for persons with disabilities.
“Talking about abortion is a feminist topic – we feel part of it, but the voices of women with disabilities hardly get through in the public discussion”
Using the funds from the mini-grant, the group wants to prepare a report on the needs of women with disabilities (WwD) in access to abortion. This way, they want to respond to a large gap that became apparent after the announcement of the Constitutional Tribunal’s verdict – omitting the voice of women with disabilities and not considering their needs in accessing abortion. “WwD’s narrative has been reduced to manipulative juxtapositions of fetuses with adults with disabilities – stripped of sexuality, decision-making and the chance to fulfill many social roles”
The activists emphasize that they do not want another discussion about the support system for people with disabilities during the conversation about abortion, because these are two independent topics. “We want to contribute to the audibility of the voice of women with disabilities in the conversation about their right to a safe and accessible abortion.”
