About the group

We exist so that the current anti-abortion law harms as few people as possible, is applied as inhumanly as possible, and ultimately – so that it changes.

They are a grassroots collective of lawyers with different specializations. They are all human rights activists. As Pro Abo Lawyers, they are engaged in the fight for decriminalization and destigmatization of abortion in Poland and support for abortion activism in Poland. They provide legal support to people repressed in connection with the currently applicable anti-abortion law – due to their own abortion or assistance in abortion. They are also engaged in educational and publishing activities.

We are openly and loudly pro-abo. We risk our professional positions and prospects to be a strong feminist voice in the legal environment.

About the action

Ultimately, we want the current law to change. Today, we see that its application by state institutions is influenced not only by the generally applicable principles of interpretation of the law, but also by the stigma around abortion, the patriarchal attitude towards pregnant persons, and the omission of international standards for the protection of human rights. We want to fight it.

The collective wants legal support for persons in need of help in connection with access to abortion in Poland to be as effective as possible. Therefore, the Power Grant will be allocated for the launch and operation of the hotline and e-mail with free legal advice, conducting trainings on patients’ rights and providing training materials on the educational platform. The collective also wants to take an active part in the legal debate on abortion and influence the change in the perception of the essence of reproductive rights and the destigmatization of abortion in part of the legal and medical environment.
