MiniGrant:
Organization of a series of workshops for mothers caring for children with disabilities
“We decided to fight for ourselves, for the right to self-realization, and we established an association that is not only for our children, but also for us, the pillars of working with a child with special needs”
About the group
The association was founded by women for whom it is important to support persons with disabilities and their families, especially mothers. Mothers are usually the main carers of children with disabilities. It happens that they give up their plans and aspirations and experience social exclusion. The members of the association want each of them to have a sense of belonging and feel needed. “Each of us has the right to decide about our own body and fate” – they write. They also place their activities in a broader context – they cooperate with local schools, where children with disabilities attend, and have organized pink boxes for them.
“We are women who respect and like other women. We know we are different, and we have different points of view, but this does not erase our cooperation and mutual respect”
About the action
The group decided that the first project implemented by the association would be support for themselves and other mothers of children with disabilities.
They will organize ceramic workshops, yoga, meditation, as well as meetings with persons specializing in psychology, psychiatry, or physiotherapy.
