Mudita Association

Krakow

Feminist EmPOWERment Grant:
Support for refugees with disabilities fleeing the war in Ukraine.

“Mudita supports people who care about others all the time.”

About the Group

The main goal of the Mudita Association is to support those who take care of persons with disabilities. The grant recipients decided to notice and appreciate the round-the-clock work of parents and caregivers and offer them a variety of assistance in their everyday hardships. Mudita’s activities include respite, psychological, legal, and consulting support – in all areas related to disability. The grant recipients also run a helpline for persons with disabilities and are testing an innovation: they organize “Power Meals”, i.e. they provide food rescued in various places to non-mobile parents.

“In Ukraine, there are still many people with disabilities who are unable to evacuate to a safe, adapted place. Mudita wants to create an effective system for the relocation of refugees with disabilities.”

About the action

As a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Mudita Association launched a completely new area of activity: supporting persons with disabilities and their families who are fleeing the war. It includes both evacuations from Ukraine and assistance to those who have already arrived in Poland.
Grantees want to offer refugees comprehensive, multi-faceted support, an important element of which are two hostels – reception points – adapted to accommodate persons with disabilities. After receiving crisis support in points in Warsaw and Krakow, refugees will be offered relocation to other cities and countries.
Thanks to the Feminist EmPOWERment Grant, Mudita will employ a person coordinating the assistance and at the same time speaking Ukrainian and will finance the current needs of refugees. At the same time, the grant recipients also want to take care of the team’s well-being, knowing the possible consequences of intense helping without self-care.

Grant amount: PLN 80,000
