Lodz Tenants Association

Lodz

MiniGrant: organization of tenant shifts and tenant campaigns, preparation of meetings and educational materials, purchase of a device for measuring humidity and temperature in buildings.

About the group

We want to build solidarity among tenants and raise awareness of their rights, as well as initiate changes towards the civilization of relations between municipal institutions and the people for whom they are established.

For over two years, the Lodz Tenants’ Association has been conducting self-help activities during tenants’ shifts and street actions aimed at emphasizing systemic changes in the housing policy of the city of Lodz. The group consists of people who have experienced housing problems themselves and organize for a common cause. Since the beginning of its existence, the association has provided support to residents from over 130 addresses, mainly from urban resources, in Lodz and the surrounding area.

A significant percentage of people coming to us with a housing problem are women; single pensioners who live longer and face poverty themselves, single mothers – often with disabilities, unemployed and sick women (…), etc. In the vast majority of cases, these problems are a derivative of the poorly functioning social system and the city’s policy.

About the action

As part of the MiniGrant, the association plans to continue tenant shifts and educational activities, but also – to fight for systemic changes and take up the topic of housing policy that does not reflect the needs of all people. The plans include, among others, an analysis of the condition of social housing properties in relation to the right to protect the health and life of residents, as well as tenant campaigns in public spaces.
