MiniGrant: Ensuring comfortable participation in the conference on the introduction of activities increasing accessibility in gynecological offices to people who are deaf, hearing impaired, visually impaired, blind and people with cognitive difficulties.
About the group
We assume that the most common obstacle in using all spheres of life is not disability, but architectural, communication, and ideological barriers.
Lame Warsaw is a foundation for which it is important to change the perception of persons with disabilities. Her team consists of people who work with their own identity for groups affected by multiple discrimination: on the basis of gender, disability and/or neurodiversity. The main activities of the foundation are accessibility training, universal design consultations, and the promotion of independent living for people with disabilities. One of the group’s larger activities is “Accessible Gynecology”: a series of projects that aim to improve the situation of persons from different groups who require adaptations.
A toilet for people with mobility disabilities in a gynecological hospital turned into a broom closet. Medical staff who, without the patient’s consent, pull down her pants “to make it faster”. Failure to inform the blind person where and how they will be touched in a moment (…) Such stories are common among people with disabilities. We disagree to accept them, which is why the planned conference is one of our steps towards change.
About the action
As part of the activities of “Accessible Gynecology”, the Lame Warsaw Foundation will organize a conference addressed to medical circles, increasing awareness of the needs of persons from various groups requiring adaptation. Participation in the conference will be possible and comfortable for persons who are deaf, hearing impaired, visually impaired, blind, with cognitive difficulties… that is, for everyone.
