MiniGrant: The group will organize an empowering and relaxing trip to the seaside, including a sex education workshop and yoga classes for young women with intellectual disabilities.
About the group
We know from several years of experience working with people with disabilities that despite the changing times, certain stereotypes remain unchanged: the sexuality of people with disabilities is still a taboo subject, and so is menstruation, which girls are still ashamed to talk about.
The group consists of teachers – special educators who have been working with young people with disabilities for several years. The group has been implementing feminist initiatives since 2019 and directs its activities to young women with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities, who are often alone with their problems with sexuality, deprived of support from loved ones and substantive knowledge. The group acts because it wants young disabled women to feel a full part of the community, to be aware of their value, rights and choices that they can make in life.
We want to prevent the social exclusion of women with disabilities, the shallowing of their role in society. We are very keen on taking a conscious approach to the sex life and parenthood of our students.
About the action
The group will organize a three-day trip to the seaside, combined with a sex education workshop. Conversations about personal hygiene, menstruation, sex, contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases will be complemented by moments of relaxation – walks, yoga, and mindfulness training. 10 students from their school will be invited to participate in the workshop, for some it will be the first trip to the seaside in their lives.
