International Medical Students Association
Warsaw
A group of students belonging to the Association will organize workshops and a discussion panel for future doctors regarding access to contraception and abortion in Poland.
About the group
For us, feminism is about striving for equality, acceptance, equal opportunities, and spreading the idea of absolute respect for another person, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, appearance, and physical ability.
The International Association of Medical Students IFMSA-Poland is an organization of medical students who, through educational campaigns and workshops, want to make health care more equal, inclusive, and accessible. In their activities and education for equality, they pay special attention to unequal access to medical care, the lack of specific research on non-cis persons, the lack of access to contraception (including emergency contraception) and abortion.
Every day during our studies, we learn about countless procedures, medicines or health problems, but the topic of abortion, which potentially affects half of society, is systematically overlooked. Each and every one of us in our future medical career will meet with a person before and after this procedure.
About the action
IFMSA-Poland believes that increasing the awareness of medics in the field of abortion increases the safety of patients who may need a termination of pregnancy or medical assistance after the procedure. Unfortunately, the need to talk about termination of pregnancy in the Polish medical community has still not been met with an improvement in the level of education of future doctors. To change this situation in a grassroots way, the group will organize workshops on access to contraception and abortion in Poland. The plans also include workshops and a panel discussion with persons specializing in this subject. And all that will take place in summer cottages surrounded by nature to create a safer and open atmosphere.
