Confederation of Youth’s Work
Warsaw
MiniGrant: Confederation of Youth’s Work members will organize an information and educational mini campaign, encouraging young women to organize in trade unions.
About the group
We do not stop in our fight for workers’ rights and decent wages for everyone residing in Poland, regardless of their nationality, current level of earnings or gender identity/sexual orientation. We started operating during the pandemic because we were concerned about the situation on the labor market.
The Confederation of Youth’s Work is a grassroots initiative created for people who want to engage in a solidarity struggle for better working conditions. It brings together, among others, migrants, people with disabilities, young parents, platform workers, people experiencing mobbing and working on the basis of unstable forms of employment. The group supports people in organizing trade unions and running information campaigns – it has created, among others, the report “Young people on the labor market in the times of pandemic”, which describes how the epidemiological crisis has affected the situation of people entering the labor market.
Highly feminized professions related to care, child rearing, and cleanliness are the worst paid. It is assumed that caring for children, the sick, the elderly, cleaning at home is something women are created for and that it comes naturally, so there is no need to pay for it, since we will do it anyway.
About the action
Using the MiniGrant, Confederation of Youth’s Work is planning an information and educational mini-campaign aimed at informing young women that trade unions are an important platform to fight for their rights – including workers’ rights. Young people are becoming less and less involved in trade unions and reaching them is one of the biggest challenges for employee organizations. Therefore, the campaign is also an attempt to break the trend and move away from the stereotype of a union as an “archaic institution”. The group wants to focus on attractive, persuasive content and forms of communication that will reach young women like themselves.
