Alliance for Black Justice in Poland
Warszawa
About the group
BJP aims for a world free of white supremacy, in which all Black people in all their diversity are safe, fulfill their dreams, and live their lives on their own terms.
The coalition was formed in March 2022, just after Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and consists of 5 organizations and groups working on behalf of Black people and those of African descent, who were discriminated against and did not receive the same assistance as other people fleeing the war. BJP provided them with support from the moment they crossed the border, helped them find a place to live and start a new life in Poland. Currently, it works for all Black people and people of African descent in Poland, regardless of when they arrived and their legal status. The team consists of Black people and people of African descent as well as allies.
About the action
We strive for equality for all genders and for solidarity and radical care for the well-being of Black women and Black queer people.
BJP provides direct support – it helps gain access to housing, health care and education, provides material assistance and translation services. It also conducts trainings and information meetings to raise awareness of the situation of Black people in the Polish society and to promote racial justice. The coalition also builds a sense of belonging and community among Black people in Poland: it organizes meetings and events where people can establish new contacts and have a good time. It also awards student scholarships for Black people and people of African descent who want to study in Poland. BJP plans to develop self-advocacy and cooperation with the media to take part in the public debate and make statements on issues that affect the lives of Black people in Poland.
