Abortion Dream Team
Przasnysz/Warszawa
Power Grant (institutional grant for carrying out the group’s mission).
About the group
We believe that without cultural change, there is no legal change, which is why we are actively working to normalize abortion by showing statistics and telling real abortion stories.
The group was founded in 2016 on the initiative of activists who had been supporting people in need of abortion for years. ADT responds to messages and emails from people seeking help on a daily basis but also organizes workshops and abortion camps. After the change of power, they follow and react to planned changes in the law, also ensuring that laws restricting the reproductive rights of women and persons are not introduced. They work for a cultural change in which abortion ceases to be stigmatized and becomes a completely normal experience. They care not only about legalizing abortion, but also about the proper training of medical staff in the field of abortion, because what is used nowadays are outdated methods based on outdated knowledge.
Legal abortion is not enough for us. We want it to be realistically available and practiced in accordance with WHO recommendations. In addition, we want abortion to be easier: in access, in experience, in talking about and in this area, we will continue to act. Abortion can be an easy experience, but the patriarchy wants it to be difficult.
About the action
ADT supports people who want to have an abortion, educates and trains activists and medical staff on this subject, advises politicians on draft abortion laws and participates in parliamentary committees. In the absence of real changes on the part of the government, they decided to open the first abortion clinic in Poland – Abotak!, where anyone can come to perform pharmacological abortion in a safe, cozy place. Abotak is available for every person, regardless of the reason, age, material status, passport, or health condition.
